Sailing Instructor

Sailing Instructor

Job Summary

Under the authority of the management of the nautical center, the sailing instructor is responsible for the planning and delivery of sailing courses, the safety of participants on the water and on land, the maintenance of equipment, as well as the promotion of good nautical and environmental practices.

 

Main responsibilities

Teaching and animation

  • Plan and lead sailing courses adapted to the age and skill level of the participants

  • Teaching basic and advanced sailing concepts (rigging, maneuvers, safety, right-of-way rules, weather)

  • To supervise practical activities on the water in a dynamic and safe manner

  • Evaluate participants' progress and provide constructive feedback

  • Form the camp animation team

  • Participate in leading group activities

 

Security

  • Ensuring the safety of participants at all times, both on the water and on land

  • Apply and enforce the safety protocols of the nautical center

  • Monitor weather conditions and adapt activities accordingly

  • Responding effectively in case of emergency or incident

 

Equipment management

  • Prepare, inspect and store boats and nautical equipment

  • Report any defects or maintenance needs

  • Participate in the basic maintenance of sailboats and equipment

 

Customer service and team spirit

  • Welcoming participants with professionalism and courtesy

  • Collaborating with the team

  • Contributing to a positive, inclusive and respectful atmosphere

 

Other related tasks

  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions

  • Supporting special events or activities at the nautical center

Requirements and qualifications

  • Recognized sailing instructor certification (e.g. Sail Canada)

  • Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate

  • Experience in teaching or leading water sports (laser, caravelle, optimist, windsurfing, wings)

  • Good physical condition and comfort on the water

  • Sense of responsibility, autonomy and team spirit

 

Working conditions

  • Seasonal, full-time job, from June to the end of August

  • Hours: 8am to 5pm, weather permitting

  • Work primarily outdoors

  • Salary at $23/hour

Sea Kayaking Supervisor

Job Summary

The sea kayaking supervisor is responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising all guided sea kayaking excursions. He or she ensures the quality of services offered, the safety of participants and staff, the management of equipment, and the supervision of kayak guides.

 

Main responsibilities

 

1. Planning sea kayaking trips

Plan, organize, and supervise sea kayaking trips based on reservations.

Teach basic and advanced sea kayaking techniques according to recognized standards.

 

Plan trips and choose the departure location based on weather conditions, participant skill levels, and educational objectives.

 

2. Water safety

​Ensure compliance with water safety standards and the Water Sports Center's policies.

Assess sea conditions daily and make appropriate decisions regarding the conduct of activities.

Respond to emergencies and apply safety and rescue protocols.

 

3. Equipment management

Manage, maintain, and inspect sea kayaking equipment (kayaks, paddles, PFDs, safety equipment).

 

Keep inventory up to date and report and carry out repairs or replacements as needed.

 

Ensure that equipment is cleaned and stored safely and properly with your team.

 

4. Staff supervision and training

Supervise, support, and mentor kayak guides.

 

Participate in seasonal staff training and new employee orientation.

 

Ensure clear and effective communication within the team.

 

5. Customer service and nature interpretation

Provide high-quality, dynamic, professional, and safe customer service.

 

Learn the interpretation and presentation content to be delivered during trips and train other guides.

 

Inform and advise participants on the activities offered.

 

Contribute to the positive image and mission of the Istorlet Nautical Center.

 

Required profile

 

Significant experience in sea kayaking and group supervision.

 

Relevant certifications in sea kayaking (guide or instructor) and first aid/CPR.

 

Good knowledge of the marine environment and local conditions.

 

Leadership, autonomy, organizational skills, and excellent judgment.

 

Ability to work variable hours, including weekends and holidays.

 

Working conditions :

  • Seasonal, full-time position from May 18 to the end of September.

  • Work mainly outdoors.

  • Salary: $25/hour.

Day Camp Coordinator

Status: Full-time, seasonal

Duration: From June 1, 2026 to August 15, 2026

Immediate Supervisor: General Management

Position Summary

The Camp Director plans, coordinates, and oversees all activities of the Centre nautique de l’Istorlet’s summer camp. The person ensures a safe, educational, and engaging experience for young participants through nautical and outdoor activities, while supervising the animation team and ensuring compliance with maritime safety standards.

Main Responsibilities

1. Nautical Camp Coordination

Plan and organize the camp program.

Coordinate and lead nautical and land-based activities (introduction to sailing, water games, marine environment discovery, outdoor activities).

Ensure the smooth running of camp days according to the established schedule.

Plan and organize group activities upon request.

Adapt activities according to weather and maritime conditions.

Ensure preparation, safe use, and storage of equipment.

2. Team Supervision

Guide, support, and supervise animators and instructors.

Participate in staff training.

Lead daily or weekly team meetings.

Ensure clear communication and a positive work environment.

Provide support and feedback to staff.

3. Nautical Safety and Risk Management

Ensure the application of nautical safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Assess weather and maritime conditions daily.

Ensure compliance with supervision ratios and safety standards.

Intervene in incidents or situations requiring immediate action.

Complete accident or incident reports.

4. Participant Supervision

Ensure the well-being and safety of children at all times.

5. Communication with Parents and Management

Act as the main point of contact for parents.

Requirements

Experience in camp animation or coordination (day camp or nautical camp).

Valid first aid certification (mandatory).

Immediate Supervisor: Camp Director

Position Summary

The Camp Counselor is responsible for the safe supervision and leadership of a group of children participating in the Centre nautique de l’Istorlet’s day camp. The person in this role leads recreational and educational nautical and outdoor activities, while ensuring the safety of participants on land and on the water.

Main Responsibilities

Animation and Supervision

Lead nautical, sports, and recreational activities adapted to the participants’ age.

Supervise a group of children according to established ratios.

Encourage participation, respect, and team spirit.

Create a fun, inclusive, and safe environment.

Participate in group animation activities upon request.

Nautical Activities

Assist with the introduction to nautical activities (Caravelle, Optimist, Laser, kayak, paddleboard, wing surf, water games, etc.).

Ensure compliance with nautical safety rules.

Supervise shoreline activities and boat launches.

Help prepare, transport, and store equipment.

Safety and Monitoring

Ensure the physical and emotional safety of children at all times.

Actively supervise swimming and water activities.

Apply emergency protocols and the centre’s procedures.

Provide first aid when required.

Carry out safety checks on equipment used.

Planning and Organization

Participate in activity planning.

Prepare animation materials.

Maintain clean and safe facilities.

Contribute to the setup and dismantling of installations.
